Progressive
CP? My name is Dawna & I am a 17-year-old senior in high school. I have a very mild case of CP, and haven't talked to many others with a similar condition. It is very rare to find someone who has such a mild case of it. Anyway, I haven't had many problems because of my CP, with the exception of a very weak & uncoordinated left leg & a few other minor problems. For the past three years, I have had very bad back problems that are supposedly unrelated to CP. I have been to several specialists, physical therapists, surgeons, etc. and the doctors still know not what is causing my constant pain. I have tried hundreds of therapies and remedies, but the pain has gotten progressively worse. Though cerebral palsy is defined as a "non-progressive condition", I have read several accounts of people who beg to differ with that label. Usually, when a person with CP has progressive pain, the doctors attribute it to excessive physical therapy or over-compensation, without a! seconds hesitation. Because almost every medical text states that CP cannot get worse, there is no research being done to prove otherwise. I believe that there is a possibility that CP may be somewhat progressive and that it will take the testimonies of others with cerebral palsy to make medical professionals even begin to consider that possibility. I very well may be a quintessential example of the progression of CP because my case is so mild and I have not had much physical therapy and my body functions quite normally, without any significant overcompensation for my left leg. These could just be crazy pipe dreams, but when considered thoroughly, the evidence is quite intriguing. If there is anyone out there who has CP and has noticed even a slight progression of pain, etc., feel free to contact me. If you have comments, questions, or just think I'm crazy to believe this, let me know! Otherwise, I wish everyone the best of luck in life!! |
