SOMETHING. SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH MY BABY!" Story In terrific pain, Mom screamed, "DO SOMETHING. SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH MY BABY!" After twenty hours of labor, Mom had started to hemorrhage and lose much blood The incident frightened her. She knew something was seriously wrong. She had degree in nursing and had worked with surgeons. She knew that the pain she was experiencing and the flowing blood before the birth was not normal. The intern didn't think there was a problem. Mom screamed at him to call for a more experienced doctor, who immediately ordered a cesarean Mom's narrow pelvis had prevented my head from entering the birth canal. I experienced lack of oxygen for about five minutes that April day of 1955 before the cesarean was performed. The doctor revived me and thought I was a perfectly healthy baby. Since I had bright red hair and brown eyes, my dad gave me an Irish name, Kathy. Six months after my birth, I had difficulty rolling to my side when I was lying in my crib or on the floor. When an orthopedist, Dr. Waiseman covered my face with a cloth I panicked and stopped breathing. After all the testing was over, the diagnosis was "cerebral palsy." Dr. Waiseman told my parents that I wouldn't be able to walk, would have to be fed, and would have to be dressed. Plus, he said, that I wouldn't be able to talk.
